5 Things I Had to Release to Create an Embodied and Nourishing Business
5 Things I Had to Release to Create an Embodied and Nourishing Business
Building a business that truly nourishes you – mind, body, and soul – is about more than just the bottom line. It's about creating something that aligns with your values, honors your well-being, and allows you to thrive. For me, this journey has been as much about releasing as it has been about building. Here are five crucial things I had to let go of to create a more embodied and nourishing business:
1. Releasing the "Shoulds"
We're bombarded with messages about what a "successful" business looks like. The pressure to conform to these external expectations can be overwhelming. For me, the biggest "should" was the myth of the 80-hour work week. I had to consciously dismantle this belief and embrace a more sustainable pace. This meant prioritizing my well-being and carving out time for the things that truly matter – family, hobbies, and simply recharging. Letting go of the "shoulds" allows you to define success on your own terms and build a business that reflects your unique vision.
2. Releasing the Fear of Visibility
Putting yourself out there can be terrifying. The fear of judgment, criticism, and even just being seen can hold us back from sharing our gifts with the world. I had to confront my own fear of visibility head-on. This meant releasing the need for everyone to approve of me and starting to share my authentic self online. It wasn't always easy, but the more I showed up authentically, the more I connected with the people I was meant to serve.
3. Releasing the Attachment to Outcomes
In business, it's easy to get fixated on specific outcomes, like revenue goals or follower counts. While it's important to have a vision, clinging too tightly to specific results can create unnecessary stress and block us from recognizing other opportunities. I had to release my attachment to rigid expectations and trust the process of building my business. This allowed me to be more open to unexpected opportunities and pivot when needed. Sometimes, the detours lead to the most beautiful destinations.
4. Releasing Toxic Clients/Projects
This one was tough, but so necessary. Not all clients or projects are a good fit. Some can drain your energy, misalign with your values, and leave you feeling depleted. I had to learn to set boundaries and prioritize my well-being by releasing clients who weren't a good match. Saying "no" can be difficult, but it creates space for the right opportunities and allows you to work with people who truly value your contributions.
5. Releasing Physical Clutter
Our physical environment has a profound impact on our mental and emotional state. A cluttered office can lead to a cluttered mind. To truly embody my business, I had to address the physical clutter in my workspace. Creating a more inspiring and productive environment allowed me to feel more grounded and present in my work. It's amazing how much of a difference a clean and organized space can make!
These five releases have been instrumental in creating a more embodied and nourishing business. It's an ongoing process, but by continually letting go of what no longer serves me, I'm able to create a business that truly supports my well-being and allows me to thrive. What about you?
